BlueHealth – planning and designing blue spaces for promoting human health and well-being

This seminar explores the boundary between landscape architecture and human health and well-being – an increasingly important topic. It lies at the interface of public health promotion and disease prevention with landscape planning and design, in the context of blue spaces (water bodies of various kinds and the landscapes associated with them. The presentation will focus on the recently completed EU-funded BlueHealth project, giving an overview of how it worked and what was achieved, as well as looking in some detail at a series of experimental design interventions aimed at promoting physical, mental and social health and well-being across Europe, where the experimental design crossed the boundary between disciplines.
